4th grade News

Math: We have been working on module 1 in math where we have been looking at place value, comparing numbers, adding, subtracting, using tape diagrams with word problems. This upcoming week we will be focusing on multi-step word problems  and testing over the whole module around Thursday. 

Reading: We have been working on Literature Discussion Group Expectations and practicing the expectations as well. 

Writing: We have been working on the writing process and writing from an objects point of view (i.e. Chromebook, a dog, the rollie chair in class, etc.).

Content: We have introduced our first unit over maps and immigration prior to 1800. Next week we will be constructing a map in class.

**** The Cox Care Mobile is scheduled to be at Clever Schools on Thursday, October 11, 2018. The Care Mobile is a medical office on wheels that provides FREE services to children ages birth to 18 years. This service is provided whether you have insurance or not. Please note: The Care Mobile does charge for sports physicals to those that do not qualify for free or reduced meals. You may call the school nurse to inquire about the services provided, to schedule an appointment, and to receive the necessary paperwork. Thank you!

October's Cox Care Mobile - Oct. 21

The Cox Care Mobile is scheduled to be at Clever schools on October 11, 2018.  The Care Mobile is a medical office on wheels that provides FREE services to children ages birth to 18 years. This service is provided whether you have insurance or not.  Please note:  The Care Mobile does charge for sports physicals to those that do not qualify for free or reduced lunches.  You may call the school nurse to inquire about the services provided, to schedule an appointment, and to receive the necessary paperwork.  Thank you!

SPORTS PHYSICALS:

-Students who qualifies for free or reduced lunches or no insurance- no charge for sports physical

-Students who does not qualify for free or reduced lunches- $25 charge for sports physical

IMMUNIZATIONS:

-Students without insurance or those with active Medicaid can receive vaccines for Free.

-Students with private insurance can receive vaccines and the cost of service will be submitted to the insurance company.  ***Insurance must be accepted by Cox Health***

Back to school letter

Dear Parents/Guardians,                                                                                 8-20-18

First of all, I want to thank you for trusting me with your child’s learning this year. We have
been working on procedures and expectations for 4th graders. Please encourage your child
to continue to show respect and make good choices so that they can exceed their potential.
There are a few things with which I need your help.

• Please fill out all forms that were sent home at Open House/First Day of School and

return as soon as possible. Many of you have done this, but I still have several missing.

• Some of the kiddos have asked about bringing in birthday treats. This is perfectly

acceptable; however, I have 24 students right now, so I ask that all be included in the count.

I know that is a lot of treats, so mini-cupcakes, cookies, fruit snacks, pixie stix, etc. are a great

way to include everyone without too much expense involved.

• Your child will be in a Literature Discussion Group with about 4-5 other students.

Some of our students are reading at a high level. This means that in order for them to read

on a level that keeps them challenged, they might read books of a diverse maturity level. We

share a bookroom with the middle school students, so some books are meant for the upper

grades. With that being said, teachers have no way of reading all of the books that come

through our students hands. I will do my best to choose appropriate books, but I really need

your help. Please peruse the book they bring home and make sure it is acceptable reading

material for your child.

• If you haven’t already done so, please sign up for Remind texts. In the past, parents

have loved this form of communication. It’s short messages to your phone that we will send

to remind you about things such as: field trips, permission slips, red ribbon week, weather, etc.

It’s a great way to communicate how your child is doing or about an upcoming assessment.
